Jobs and Money

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 07 November 2014 13:06

Chloe campaigns to help businesses in Norwich and the area grow, which means they can create more jobs for local people.  She particularly campaigns for infrastructure improvements for the city and county – see ‘Transport’ section for her successes.

On 25th January 2013 Chloe launched the 'Norwich for Jobs' Campaign, which seeks to halve youth unemployment in Norwich in two years. For more details of this campaign, please visit: http://chloesmithmp.com/norwich-for-jobs/ and   http://www.norwichforjobs.org.uk/

The Norwich For Jobs project has since seen the figure of young people enter paid opportunities of jobs and apprenticeships reach 1,306 as a result of our project since January 2013. At the start of our two-year project in January 2013 there were just over 2,000 young people, aged 18-24, registered as unemployed in the Norwich area. The aim to reduce the claimant count to 1000 has been surpassed with the latest figures showing it at 990.

The latest progress can be found at http://www.norwichforjobs.org.uk/progress. Employers looking to support the project should email info@norwichforjobs.org.uk to find out more.

Young People

Chloe campaigns for more opportunities for young people through work experience and further education. She works with City College Norwich, schools, businesses, councils and others to understand what young people want and to deliver more opportunities for them in Norwich.

Financial Capability

Chloe has worked with groups like the Citizens’ Advice Bureau over years to improve money and debt advice in the City.  She has helped open the new Norwich City Community Bank (from Norfolk Credit Union) and is keen to see Big Lottery money put to good use to help social housing tenants and others in Norwich gain financial confidence.
