Chloe welcomes the campaign to boost take up of Pension Credit in Norwich

Last week, the Government announced that it is expanding the Pension Credit Campaign to include more people and give more people the security of savings in later life.

Pension Credit is largely unclaimed across the country and is a top up for our most vulnerable pensioners that is worth an average of £3,300. As well as a cash top up to the State Pension, it is a passport to a suite of other benefits such as help with housing costs, council tax reduction schemes, heating bills and a free over-75s TV licence.

It is estimated that £1.7 billion is being left unclaimed which is why the DWP is renewing calls for all pensioners to check if they could be eligible.

Pensions Minister Guy Opperman has written to local newspapers across the country and the Department for Work and Pensions will send leaflets to 11 million pensioners. A high-profile media day will also take place on 15 June 2022.

In addition, State Pension recipients will continue to receive reminders about Pension Credit in the post as part of the department’s annual uprating communications.

The online Pension Credit calculator is also on hand to help pensioners check if they’re likely to be eligible and get an estimate of what they may receive.

Pension Credit is designed to help with daily living costs for people over State Pension age and on a low income, though you do not need to be in receipt of State Pension to receive it.

Pension Credit can be claimed online, by telephone or by post. Information is available on GOV.UK website www.gov.uk/pension-credit or by calling the Freephone Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.
