Chloe speaks on tackling youth homelessness

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, will be speaking at Party Conference on supporting homeless young people to find work.

The fringe event, hosted by leading national charity Centrepoint, will include employment support providers, businesses, young people, housing providers and local authority representatives.

Speaking about the event Chloe said:

“Getting more young people into work has always been a major priority of mine. Youth unemployment continues to fall, but this success is not evenly spread. In some areas youth unemployment persists at over 25%.

“Here in Norwich the Norwich for Jobs project has succeeded in halving youth unemployment, but young people who are homeless face a unique set of challenges. Last year the Government announced £65 million to tackle homelessness, with youth homelessness a central part of this.

“The £15 million Fair Chance Fund aims to improve accommodation, employment and training outcomes for 1,600 vulnerable homeless 18 to 25-year-olds. I look forward to seeing Centrepoint’s findings on homeless people’s experience of apprenticeships and on what further support is needed.”
