Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, will on Friday 10th February 2012 be meeting with Year 7 pupils to discuss the role of an MP.

The Sprowston Community High School students will quiz Chloe on her role as an MP both in Westminster and in Norwich North to discover what she does on a day-to-day basis, whether she likes her job and what kind of person becomes an MP with questions expected to range from parliamentary procedure to Chloe’s hobbies.

The Year 7 pupils are studying a unit on ‘Effective Participation (Democracy in the UK)’ which involves looking at what a responsible citizen is, what democracy is, what Government means and what it does and the role of an MP.

Chloe comments: “I always look forward to and enjoy meeting with young people. Their enthusiasm is infectious and they have a remarkable way of looking at the world that makes you really think about your own ways of working.

“It is important to give young people time and encouragement to ask the questions they want to ask and to give them good, honest answers in order to maintain their enthusiasm for the world around them and for society as a whole.”
