Chloe Smith MP welcomes encouraging figures from the Work Programme

MP for Norwich North, Chloe Smith, today welcomed the positive figures from the first six months of the Work Programme.

ESRA, the welfare to work industry body, published the first progress figures from across the UK that show between 18 and 23% of those who joined the Programme in its first month have gone into work since then. These figures show that the industry is well on track to achieve its goals for the Work Programme. The Work Programme is also designed to support those people once they are in employment to remain in their jobs much longer than previous programmes have attempted. To help achieve this, the Government will not pay most of the providers’ fees until people have been in work for an extended period.
