MP for Norwich North, Chloe Smith, this week joined Aviva in Westminster to celebrate their commitment to local communities in Norwich and across the UK. Chloe was pleased to be guest speaker at the event and was joined by Aviva’s Global CEO, Andrew Moss who also addressed the audience.

At the event, Chloe spent time talking with Aviva’s community partners, including Sarah Garbacz of the Learn and Thrive Project and Terina Keene, CEO of Railway Children.

Aviva is Norwich’s largest employer and Chloe continues to work closely with them to foster close links between business and the community in Norwich.

  • In 2011, Aviva invested £5.3m into communities in the UK

  • 30% of Aviva volunteers gave 33,000 hours for good causes in 2011. In Norwich 6000 staff volunteered over 7000 hours during 2011.

  • Almost 18 million people are aware of at least one of Aviva’s sport sponsorship programmes, demonstrating a commitment to the sport at an elite level and at grassroots. This includes sponsorship of UK Athletics, the Aviva Rugby Premiership and Norwich City Football Club. 420,000 children have been through our community coaching for athletics and rugby

  • Street to school: a global initiative to help children living on the streets. Aviva have committed £1.7 million over five years – and their aim is to positively impact 20k children through a range of awareness, preventative and intervention activities.

  • Aviva is working in partnership with Railway Children through the Aviva Street to School programme to get children living or working on UK streets back into everyday life. Railway Children is a leading children’s charity focused on the relief of children and young people living alone and at risk on the streets in need of care and protection. Railway children are also advising Norfolk County Council on their experience with helping our at risk children.

Chloe comments:

“Aviva play an important role in Norwich by investing in projects that make a real difference in our community. I am proud to continue working with them for Norwich.”
