Chloe Smith MP calls on Norwich to freeze council tax

Member of Parliament for Norwich North, Chloe Smith, today reiterated her call for Norwich City Council to freeze council tax for the coming year.

Chloe welcomed the Government’s commitment to funding a freeze in council tax for a second year in a row and strongly urged Norwich to take up the offer, as half of all local authorities have already done.

Chloe urged Norwich City Council to join Broadland District Council who have signalled their intention to extend the freeze for another year.

Chloe commented:

“As families across Norwich are counting every penny and every pound, I am calling on Norwich City Council to accept the offer of funding from the Government to enable a freeze on council tax for 2012.

“As households across the UK are counting the pennies carefully, there is a strong moral case for the freeze as a public service in itself. This is an opportunity for councils to reform and innovate

“The freeze would save households an average of £72 per year. As a Norwich City Council tax payer myself, I strongly urge the Council to take the opportunity to ease the burden on families in the City. Half of all local authorities have already made the decision. I hope that Norwich City Council joins them”.
