Continuing to respond to constituents’ requests for action, Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, has secured police action on the ongoing issue of dangerous cycling.

Following Chloe’s successful high-profile ‘Safer Cycling’ Campaign, which was launched in April 2012, numerous constituents have contacted Chloe to report and seek action on dangerous cycling.

Chloe was invited by a local business to witness the dangerous cycling on Magdalen Road; following on from Chloe’s experience she immediately requested that the local police take action. Chloe has successfully arranged with local police for an operation of enforcement activity.

Chloe will be joining local police in their briefing and will participate in the action on 11th October 2012.

Chloe is concerned and wants to prevent further road deaths following fatal accidents in recent months.

Chloe comments: "It is important for all road users to obey the laws of the road in order to keep themselves and others safe. It is illegal and dangerous to cycle on pavements, and to cycle the wrong way down a one-way street. These actions should be punished, to make them stop.

"I also acknowledge that there are other aspects of the problem - such as some terrible drivers that put cyclists and pedestrians at risk. We have to start somewhere and I reiterate my campaign call for a chain of respect between road users and safer, considerate behaviour on the roads and pavements.

"As a cyclist myself, I want cycling to be enjoyable and safe in our fine city.

"I am not interested in party-politics or gesturing around this issue. We need results. I have worked with and I am keen to continue to work with anyone who knows and understands this issue and has the authority to take meaningful action."
