Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North and Patron of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, will be joining the charity’s founder, Old Catton man Mel Lacey, in launching their first ever fund-raising ball. The event is being held at Sprowston Manor Hotel and joined by people from across the country.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation charity raises awareness of male cancers and men’s health issues. The foundation has three key objectives:

  • To raise awareness of male health issues – particularly cancer.

  • To use the Blue Ribbon as a ‘rallying banner’ to help bring about awareness; and to encourage other male health charities to adopt the ribbon.

  • To support other male health and cancer charities by offering grants.

The aim of the ball on Saturday night is to raise funds to continue to the charity’s work of raising awareness of male cancers as well as to distribute funds to other charities that conduct research into male cancers and support men and their families who are suffering from male cancers.

A member of Chloe's close family has recently overcome bowel cancer.

Chloe comments: “I am really looking forward to the Blue Ribbon Foundation’s first charity ball, as its first patron and supporter, but also for personal family reasons. A lot of hard work and effort has gone into what I am sure will be a wonderful evening. I hope we can use the occasion to continue to raise awareness of male cancers and to raise vital funds to continue research efforts and to offer support to those who are suffering with male cancers.
"I am proud that this charity began in Norwich."

“Embarking on holding a charity ball has been a big step for us,” said Mel Lacey, Trustee of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, “at a time when personal finances are tight, committing to attending our ball is a very generous gesture indeed. On behalf of myself and our chair of Trustees, Jonathan Prince, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported our efforts.”
