My priorities for Norwich North: Chloe Smith MP returns from maternity leave

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 23 October 2019 10:28

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, returns from maternity leave on Monday 28th October.

She will be working in Westminster Monday-Thursday, and Fridays are dedicated to constituency meetings, as usual.  Her first constituency Friday diary will include an advice surgery and a meeting at the new Gurney Medical Surgery on Fishergate, which serves Norwich North and which Chloe helped to move to its new premises.

Her other first meetings will also include the local police, to support them in dealing with crime and antisocial behaviour issues that are raised with her by constituents.

Chloe’s priorities will include:

  • Continuing to run the highly successful Norwich for Jobs scheme which she founded in 2013. Chloe wants to see more good jobs in Norwich.
  • The transport that Norwich needs, following her leadership in securing the new trains now serving Norwich, and following good news last week that our mainline will be upgraded as part of rail improvements.  She will work for more public transport and also the building of the ‘western link’ to complete the Broadland Northway
  • The NHS investment that Norwich needs, following the welcome recent announcement of more funds for the N&N and our mental health trust.  She will work to get what constituents need from the forthcoming NHS Long Term Plan
  • The homes that Norwich families need, and the right local services to go with development
  • The best for Norwich children, following the good recent news of greater education funding for Norfolk.  She will hold a second conference with headteachers to support local schools.
  • Protecting our environment, including through measures to clean up our air, as announced in the Queen’s Speech.

In Westminster, Chloe will continue to vote for a Brexit deal but backs getting Brexit done anyway if Parliament won’t support a deal.

She will follow closely other legislation announced in the Queen’s Speech, such as the Domestic Abuse Bill, following the murder of her constituent Kerri McAuley.

And Chloe will support Norwich getting a good deal from the Budget expected in November.

Chloe says:

“I’m raring to go.  There’s a lot to do in Westminster, while locally it’s clear what we can do to make sure Norwich stays a great place to live.  I'll continue working hard for everyone in Norwich North.

“My husband and I are really touched by lot of kind wishes from local people while I’ve had our second baby, and I’m grateful to my constituency office team who have helped constituents in my absence.

"I will continue to keep constituents up to date with my work on my local priorities both on my website and across my social media platforms. In return, please get in touch on any matter, local or national - I always want to hear from you, and will always do my best to help."
