Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, on Friday 25th October 2019, brought Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to the International Aviation Academy in Norwich to meet with Norwich City Council to discuss their bid for a share of £3.6bn funds from the Towns Fund.

The Towns Fund, which covers urban areas of various sizes, was announced by the Government to boost growth and give communities a greater say in their future after Brexit.

The Towns Fund will be targeted at places that have not shared in the proceeds of growth in the same way as more prosperous parts of the country.

It will be used to create new jobs, help train local people and boost economic activity, with communities having a say on how the money is spent.

A share of this funding, up to £25m, could be awarded to Norwich as the Government has announced that it is among the 100 places eligible for support from the fund.

Chloe commented: “I’m keen that Norwich benefits from the fund. I pledge to work with Norwich City Council and other local organisations to put in a strong bid for our city that brings more good jobs to Norwich.

“I gave the Secretary of State a Norwich City Football Club football as a little reminder that although we hope to benefit from the Towns Fund, we are in fact a city, and a fine one at that!”
