Chloe Smith meeting with Greater Anglia. Update

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 14 January 2020 12:40

I have spoken to many constituents who have been affected by delays and cancellations in their rail journeys over the past few weeks. Public transport is vital for so many of us across Norfolk so last week I met with Greater Anglia to get an update, raise constituent concerns and discuss matters going forward.

Greater Anglia recognised the severe delays to many of their services over December. These delays especially affected the Norwich-Sheringham line. These delays where initially triggered by a near miss involving a vehicle and train on the Thorpe End level crossing.

I have been reassured by Greater Anglia that normal services are now being resumed although maintenance and checks are still ongoing.

The rollout of new trains is happening, on the branch lines and on the Mainline, complete this spring, and that means a better journey for passengers. In fact, we’ll see real benefits from the additional investment I secured for our area - for today’s passengers and bringing tomorrow’s jobs.

I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to get in touch with me about this important issue. I will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure progress is continued and that Norwich residents are getting the efficient rail service we deserve.
