Reporting Back: Homelessness and Rough Sleeping

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 15 January 2018 15:27

I have recently received the following letter from Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, providing an update on the actions the Government is taking to tackle the serious issue of homelessness and rough sleeping.

The letter outlines a series of measures the Government is setting in place to ensure that those who are homeless can access and range of support mechanisms, and to act to help prevent homelessness in the future.

The letter provides a breakdown of how the Government plans to spend £1 Billion through a funding programme through to 2020, which includes £20 Million to establish Homelessness Prevention Trailblazers; £20 Million for a rough sleeping grant to set in place prevention and early intervention support for those at imminent risk of rough sleeping; and £10 towards funding a Social Impact Bond, which will provide personalised support for long-term rough sleepers.

The issue of homelessness and rough sleeping is something that people in Norwich care deeply about, which is why I am encouraged to receive this update.
