Chloe speaks up for local Brain Tumour Support Group

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 18 April 2016 13:48

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, is today participating in a House of Commons debate on brain tumour research. The debate follows a petition signed by over 120,000 people calling for greater funding for research into brain tumours. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer.

Earlier this month, Chloe attended a meeting of the Norfolk Brain Tumour Support Group, which meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Big C Centre at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. This follows contact from two constituents.

Prior to the debate, Chloe said:

“I was glad to get the chance to meet with the Norfolk Brain Tumour Support Group in advance of today’s debate. Constituents have told me their experiences of living with and caring for those diagnosed with brain tumours, and it is their concerns I shall be raising today. I urge anyone affected by these issues to get in touch with the friendly and welcoming support group at the N&N.

“Having heard the personal stories of a number of constituents, I want to discuss what more can be done to fund specific research into early diagnosis and treatment options. I hope this debate marks the start of greater awareness of the problem.”

Chloe is also encouraging everyone to keep an eye out for the early warning signs of brain tumours by being fully aware of the possible symptoms.

Chloe said:

“Brain tumours can happen to anyone. This is not something which only affects other people. If you or your child suffer from 'HeadSmart' symptoms, seek advice urgently from your doctor.”
