Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North has welcomed figures out today showing that despite the roll out of Universal Credit, employment rates remain high.

In Norwich North the total number of people claiming out of work benefits in Norwich North stands at 1.9% of the economically active population, which is ahead of the UK equivalent, which currently stands at 2.9%.  Although the number of people claiming out of work benefits is 40 higher than last month, due to the Universal Credit rollout, it is 30 lower than this time last year.

Chloe commented: “I’m delighted to see that Norwich North is ahead of the rest of the country in terms of employment rate. As Founder and Chair of the Norwich For Jobs Project, I know from speaking to people first-hand how life changing finding employment can be.

“The roll out of Universal Credit is inevitably going to affect statistics, however I am pleased to see that employment rates in Norwich North are remaining higher than this time last year.”
