Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, has today urges women’s charities based in Norwich to apply to the HM Treasury’s ‘Tampon Tax’ Fund.

The Government announced at the Autumn Statement 2015 that while it makes the case in the EU for a zero rate of VAT for sanitary products, it will operate a new £15 million annual fund to support women’s charities, equivalent to the VAT raised on sanitary products each year.

In the Autumn Statement, the Chancellor invited proposals from good causes to apply for funds. Women’s charities can apply for a share of the fund by submitting their detailed proposal to tampontax.fund@hmtreasury.gsi.gov.uk by Monday 22nd February 2016.

To be considered eligible for funding, projects should be affiliated with a registered UK charity. Application proposals should include details of who will benefit; the specific objectives and activities that the funding will support, and how the recipient will demonstrate that the objectives have been achieved. The application should also include the amount of funding requested and the funding profile, whether the Tampon Tax funding will fund the entirety or part of the project and what other funding streams the project is also benefitting from.

Chloe comments: “I would urge Norwich women’s charities to apply for this funding from HM Treasury gathered from VAT on sanitary products. Whilst the Government is making the case to the EU to place a zero rate of VAT on sanitary products, I welcome to Government’s decision to spend the £15 Million accrued on these products on the good causes that help the most vulnerable women in our society.
