Chloe Smith continues to work hard to bring more childcare to Norwich parents

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 02 March 2016 13:16

Chloe will be continuing her childcare campaign by meeting with a group of local childminders to discuss expansion of childcare places in north Norwich on Thursday 3rd March 2016.

Chloe is leading local action on this issue by bringing together the county council with its statutory responsibilities, Norwich City College as a workforce training provider, the Chamber of Commerce, major employers, existing providers and the National Day Nurseries Association, to ask:  how can we encourage greater supply in Norwich?

She has recently addressed the Norfolk Institute of Directors and worked with the Federation of Small Businesses to highlight the issue for families and businesses.

Chloe has met twice in September and December last year with key stakeholders to look at action in five key areas in 2016, before the increased number of free hours is in force in 2017.

At the meeting, Chloe will welcome childminders from across greater Norwich as well as representatives from Norfolk County Council Early Years Services. One of the key issues that will be discussed at the meeting with be the skills shortage of qualified childminders.

Chloe says:

“I’m leading local action in Norwich on childcare shortages so that we have the necessary plans in place, which already has high demand and short supply.  This is a major opportunity for parents and for Norwich, and we have to grasp it.”
