Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, has been getting young people’s reactions to the Chancellor’s speech on the economy.

In his speech the Chancellor announced that in return for offering the most competitive tax rates of any advanced economy, he expected businesses to prioritise investing in training their workforce. The Chancellor said that he wanted young people to be excited about their future, proud of what they do and able to keep more of what they earn.

Attending conference for the first time, Norwich resident Claudia Shalders-Floriano said:

“As a young person studying at the moment, I was glad to hear that businesses are being encouraged to do more to provide training for their new recruits. The announcement of new rules on building on brownfield sites is also welcome and will hopefully make it easier to get on to the housing ladder.”

First elected aged 27, Chloe is one of Britain’s youngest MPs and has dedicated a sizeable part of her work in Parliament to championing the interests of fellow young people. She chairs the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Youth Employment and Youth Affairs and is a patron of the YMCA working in Norwich.

Commenting on the event Chloe said:

“It was great to get young people’s reaction to the Chancellor’s speech. We have a responsibility to ensure that our young people inherit a strong economy which continues to grow. The Chancellor’s statements on infrastructure, affordable homes and running a budget surplus demonstrate a commitment to delivering a secure future for our young people.”
