Brexit economic impact study

Author: Chloe Smith, Updated: 24 October 2017 11:06

Some constituents have contacted me to ask that I sign a letter to David Davis, to ask for the publication of economic impact studies.

This has already been raised in Parliament, and answered by the relevant Minister:

“It is not standard practice to provide an ongoing commentary on internal analytical work that is being carried out within government. The Government's plan for leaving the EU has been discussed at length, and Parliament will have a say on the final deal we achieve with the European Union by putting that deal to a vote in both Houses before it comes into force. But as Parliament has also agreed, we will not publish anything that would undermine our ability to negotiate the best deal for the UK.”

I do not believe we should be undermining the country's ability to negotiate, and having looked further into the "Best for Britain" campaign that wrote your template for you, I do not see a convincing reason to take further action at the request of an organisation that does not appear to accept the result of the referendum. I have been very straightforward with constituents that I am supporting the outcome of the referendum and supporting the government in getting genuinely the best for Britain given that we are leaving the EU.

I have also been keeping constituents up to date regularly on the progress of our departure from the EU through my Brexit Blog. I update it weekly with news of the Government’s work on securing us a good deal. I have included a link to the blog below:

Should it be judged possible for these assessments or similar to be published, I will include them in a future blog item.
